Developmental and Travel Teams

Memphis Juniors seeks to provide the best training and competition environment for players at all skill levels, from the novice 6th grader to the most experienced college-bound senior. To this end, we organize and field Developmental and Traveling Teams in every age division, from 12 and unders through 18s. We understand that some families are not able to commit to a travel schedule but still are interested in true competition in a limited travel format. We strive to make the limited travel format as competitive as possible while allowing for a less costly and less time consuming experience. Also while there is limited organized competition for true 10 and under teams in this Region, we encourage players at young ages to try out in our 12 and under division, and we will form younger teams as the players are available.

At times, we have found that there are not enough players at a given level to support more than one team (this is very common at the 18s level). In other instances, we may field one Traveling and two Developmental Teams as the need arises. Go here for our Training and Competition Schedules.

In all cases, we strive to keep team sizes to a optimal level in order to maximize playing time and coach-athlete instruction. Our traveling teams typically include more skilled and experienced players, and participate in tournaments farther afield, requiring a higher level of commitment. Teams are sized at nine to ten players in order to ensure adequate players at each tournament. Develomental Teams are more commonly sized at eight to nine players maximum to optimize court time.

Within the guidelines of our consistent overall training architecture, we seek to develop players fundamentally from the beginning and build their volleyball skills as they grow in age and experience.
