Example Competition Schedules
The tournament model schedules
below represent examples of the kinds of tournaments that our teams will be playing,
but MAY NOT EXACTLY represent either the actual schedule or the actual number of
tournaments each team will play. In general, Memphis Juniors teams have played
between 6 and 8 tournaments during the January to April tournament 'regular season.'
We expect and encourage our teams, especially our Elite Teams, to play
'post-season' events where the competitive level is high and player & team
development accelerates. For example, teams participating in National Invitationals
or National Championships held in June will practice in May to prepare
Clearly, some of the Elite Teams may choose
to play a number of tournaments at the higher end of that range,
and more competitive events at farther distances. The
Limited Travel Teams will likely play a fewer number
of events, but will still travel to a few tournaments in
the Delta or nearby Regions. Every team will have the
opportunity to travel to a tournament. Examples of one-day out-of-town
tournaments would include Delta Region events in and around Little
Rock and Southern Region events in Nashville or Huntsville. A
two-day out-of-town tournament would be something like a Southern
Region event in Birmingham or the Central Zone or Bluegrass PreQualifier.
Three-day events are the USAV Qualifiers (MEQs, Crossroads, Lone
Star) or Cajunland in New Orleans. Our Elite Teams are likely
to play two qualifiers at minimum. As usual, we will seek
to fit the tournament schedule to a team's desires and competitive
level. We will also emphasize traveling as a club, with
several teams attending most tournaments for support and camaraderie.
